Turning Time

February in the mountains

should be snowy

knee deep in powder fluff

on mornings cold enough to

freeze nose hairs.

But this feels more like spring

hope is on its knees

while trees bud and

robins peek around corners

sniffing for worms.

Time can turn on us

flap its wings on a thermal

catch winter in its talons

and fly away, leaving us

floundering in a confusion

of seasons.
